Composition Recital Registration Deadline: April 2026
Date and Time: Sunday, April 2026
Location: Third Place Commons in Lake Forest Park
Composition Recital Registration Link is not yet available

Please contact EMTA member Rick Asher with any questions about this event.

EMTA members are invited to enroll their students in this recital of live performances of student-composed pieces for instrument(s) and/or voice(s.) Students may perform their own pieces or have someone else perform them, but no recorded performances will be included unless the recording is part of a piece which will also include live performer(s.) Performances should be well rehearsed and prepared.

A piano, a music stand and a microphone will be provided on the stage. The microphone may only be used for announcements, not to amplify any musical performances. Following the performances there will be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions of the student composers, though students will not be required to participate in the Q and A session.

Unless we are truly overwhelmed (not expected) with entries there will be no limit on number of participants. There is no set time-limit, though teachers should use judgment to keep students from performing pieces that are longer than is reasonable for the student’s level of compositional development. In other words, a truly sophisticated composition can sustain audience attention for four or five minutes, whereas a very basic beginning composition should not exceed a minute or so.

The audience will be comprised of friends and families of the performers and composers and interested teachers as well as any general public members who happen to be in the Third Place Commons and want to hear the performances. Video and audio recordings are only permitted by the family of the composer and/or performer.
