The second year of the Excellence in Music Awards Program is scheduled for May 17, 2025. Here are some key reminders to help your students prepare:
Talk with your 7th-12th grade students now
It’s an ideal time to discuss the event and its requirements with your students.
EMTA Event Requirements:
- Students must participate in the Music Artistry Program.
- Students must also participate in a second EMTA event. (See the EMTA website for available options.)
Awards Program Performance Music:
- Memorized pieces must represent three different time periods.
- Compositions must reflect three distinct styles.
EMTA Volunteerism:
- Students are required to volunteer for the Musicianship Festival.
New Eligibility Rule for 2025
- Students who received 20% or less of the award money in the previous year are eligible to compete in the same age group the following year. Teachers, please refer to the updated award amounts below:

Teacher Participation Requirements & limitations
- Teachers with participating students must be available to serve as judges on the day of the event, unless there is a significant life event (e.g., a wedding or graduation). Additionally, all teachers are required to volunteer for the Awards Program and the Musicianship Festival.
- Each teacher may enter a maximum of four students, with no more than two per age group.
